Ask Me Anything: What I'm Doing in Zambia
A special two-part AMA this weekend.
This week, Mel asked about my work in Zambia, where I’m working as a Global Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Program USA and the United Nations World Food Programme. The explanation took a minute, so I decided to break this week’s AMA into two parts. Today, I’ll talk about Zambia.
This week, together with World Food Program USA and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), I launched a five-part YouTube series, Paving the Way to Zero Hunger.
Over the last decade, Zambia has experienced the devastating impacts of the climate crisis. Prolonged dry spells, extreme high temperatures and floods have devastated crops and deepened food insecurity. In Paving the Way to Zero Hunger, you can join me on my first field visit as a WFP Goodwill Ambassador as I travel to Zambia to explore WFP’s climate resilience solutions in action.
In this series, we share the inspiring stories of smallholder farmers who with WFP’s support have leveraged climate-smart techniques to improve their lives, livelihoods, and food security.
We’ll also meet some dynamic students who are running a school-based hydroponics garden that enhances the nutrition and diversity of their school meals.
Here’s Episode 1, where we learn more about the food security challenges Zambia faces and WFP’s programmatic priorities in the region. Please tune in each week as I drop a new episode! To learn more about WFP’s work in Zambia, click HERE.
Humbling to watch. The fortitude of the female farmers, to those amazing kids building the soil-less gardens not only to learn, but to bring food to the classroom!
This is something we need our kids to see, and to comprehend ....if they don’t grow it, they may not have anything to eat.
Beautifully done!
Curious....lots of smiles in those pictures, but also a few looking a big more skeptical....how was the reception , interaction with you? Especially the kids? Was it love at first sight? 😂
Best, unexpected bite from that experience?
Andrew, and all the dads on here....Hope you all have a lovely Father’s Day.
