1. Best Bar Food in Chicago

I love the food at Au Cheval and The Loyalist, two amazing bars with exceptional food, but late last Monday night I went with some friends to Gretel. Holy sh*t, where has this place been all my life? Incredible bar, open really late, even on a Monday, a fun and gracious staff, and the food was insane.

Fried shrimp — massive fresh ones, not greasy in the least — by the pound with some bold sauces, a killer Chicago dog, superb burgers, sublime mac’n’cheese, the best pretzels I have eaten in a long time paired with house mustard and a homemade cheese sauce that I wanted to drink but I was afraid of spilling.

The wedge salad was a serious tray of superbness and a lovely blue cheese dressing … the kitchen is scratch and committed to serving great food. Check out the menu and make sure to visit Gretel next time you are in the City of Big Shoulders.
