Mission Accomplished: Spilled Milk #123
Thoughts on vacation, food in the Hamptons, farming and more (including my time-tested pissaladière recipe).
Recharging.
We all need it, so last week I was off and beaching it with childhood friends in East Hampton, New York. If you are headed that way, here are some of my favorite places to eat out on the East End. And yes, EVERYTHING is overpriced. Just accept it. But none as outrageous as the craziness that is arguably the most popular restaurant out there, Sag Harbor’s Le Bilboquet.
A pot of mussels, an entrée with pomme frites, that frankly was a day past their prime was $60. And a cold poached artichoke served with an ounce of mustard vinaigrette in a ramekin was over $30. I mean, I get it, restaurants NEED to charge what it really cost to put food on the plate, and food prices are what the neighborhood will bear. I am also sure that I am the only person who ate there all summer long who even looked at prices, but for an artichoke? Really???
Anyway, I like all the below eateries for many different reasons ….
Duryea’s: Great views and good family-style food. Hit that big lobster salad for four.
