After months of overeating crudo and caprese, grilled fish and greens from my garden, I am so frickin’ ready for a change in the scenery in my kitchen.
All winter long, I crave tomatoes that I grow, or from the local farmstand…and after eating them every day for months, I want a real apple, some braised duck and spaetzle, a roasted chicken with pan gravy and root vegetable mash. Come spring, I am ready again to switch back. Flavor fatigue is real, and I LOVE eating seasonally. So from simple roasted pumpkin seeds to cabbage rolls and gnocchi, find a slew of my faves below.
Speaking of comfort foods…Rosh Hashanah starts on Sunday, and that sorta feels like the kickoff to the comfort food season. Here’s a link to my holiday menu, including my braised brisket recipe below— it’s my version of my grandma’s and it instantly transports me back to family gatherings at her apartment.

My Grandmother’s Meatloaf Recipe
This is a hearty meatloaf of beef, pork and veal studded with flavorful vegetables. Just like my grandmother, I like to put one slice of bacon on the bottom of the loaf pan to aromatize the dish, and another on top to baste it while it cooks. If you’re on the fence about meatloaf, I guarantee this recipe will change your mind. The whole family will love this meal, and the delicious sandwich leftovers you’ll be serving the rest of the week. Recipe here.
