Thanksgiving Side Dishes: Chit Chat #49

Thanks to everyone who weighed in last week on the post about finding places to eat when you travel. Here are my favorite chit-chat comments of the week:

  • Rebecca who said: Local sources are always the best (I don't count a hotel concierge as a local source - ask the nice bartender where her/his favorite place is.)

  • Nic and Samantha, who gave a shout-out to Eater.com (it’s pretty reliable).

  • And Roget, who said he asks at the hotel… but again, skips the concierge: Being a former chef, I'll venture to the kitchen to chat with the chef and kitchen staff

Appreciate everyone who shared their thoughts. This week, we’re talking my favorite holiday.

People ask how I do it all. The truth is, I don’t. For a few dollars a month, you can support Spilled Milk and the team that makes it.

Thanksgiving is coming up fast.

My endive gratin.. get the recipe here.

What are your favorite side dishes, the non-negotiable ones that you can’t imagine not eating on the holiday? AND are there any Thanksgiving recipes you’d like my help with? Let me know in the comments.

For me, it’s pretty simple (recipes linked below):

  • Endive Gratin

  • Stuffing in the bird

  • Gravy

  • Mashed Root Vegetables (potato/rutabaga/carrot)

  • Cranberry Sauce

  • Citrus and Bitter Green Salad

I don’t give a damn about green veg that day, not one bit. This year I am adding two new veg dishes to my menu: Salt-baked beets, and sweet and sour onions. Here they are for paid subscribers only.
