Last week we talked clams … so I thought I would remind you today about Homarus Americanus, aka the American lobster.

At Five Islands Lobster Co.

Why this of all subjects?

Well, many of us can’t go abroad this year. Micro vacations are “in” and affordable. And truly, throwing everyone in a rental car and driving the road from Boston to Maine and up the coast is about as good a trip in August as I can think of. Stop everywhere that looks good. I tried to list these places in a straight line south to north so you can repeat on the way back down the coast.

Arrive in Boston.

Immediately drive to Santarpio’s Pizza. It’s a mile from the airport. Get the grilled sausage, grilled lamb (cooked in a fireplace in the bar) and get a pie. Eat it all. You will be eating only seafood for the next few days, so this is a smart move

Newburyport, MA

Bob Lobster in Newburyport is an hour away. Grab a lobster roll and complain about the price, but it’s really good. Other stuff on the menu is pretty tasty. Just get a plain roll, they offer a lot of types of lobster roll and the esoteric ones are so-so.

Essex, MA
