So is the year of unpredictability. Going going gone 4 hours before the holiday bowl was to be played in San Diego. Covid bust. What was to be an amazing site of football being played in a transformed Petco Park. Crazy money spent…visitors from across the country. going going way gone …..

Nature never closes (confession: I totally stole this from a friend).

I too am frustrated by the fact that greed and absurdly high standard-of-living expectations (confessing to those as well) continue to tear down a beautiful planet. But mercifully, there are still wild places that never fail to delight me in some way, and sometimes feed me quite well.

My passport expired recently. I was blasé about renewing it. Whenever I start channeling “Glum”….”we’re doomed”….my friend says…remember Paris? Remember the North shore in Oahu? And it brings me back to my optimistic self of preparing for better things to come. Thinking of moments where we laughed until we cried!

I loved reading this, even though yes, in many ways we are a bit doomed. And nothing will ever be the same. I’m excited to explore with new eyes, a new heart, a new take on the fate of the planet.

And I know this is your platform, but have to share a funny moment from Paris…4 ladies traveling together. Our nightly routine was to crack a bottle of port at the end of the day, while I forcibly made each person ad something to my lil travel journal. One eve we noticed we were being heavily “watched” by some sketchy dudes. We were a little loose from the port & thus braver than they anticipated. The dudes tried to separate us, zero English spoken while they tried to lead us all apart. We laughed at them & said u guys are f’n crazy. Well, that got them angry. Moments later, the hotel personnel stepped in, escorted us to our rooms, instructed us to lock the door& not answer to anyone! And those men were removed from the hotel. I’m sure it was just some Russian men in town on business thinking they hit the lottery with 4 port drunk ladies. However…we concocted an elaborate hilarious tale right out of Taken. I deeply miss those laugh till you cry moments, or this bite of food is life changing moments that come from traveling. Soon. I’m optimistic, soon.

I am watching snow fall on MN but after reading this my mind took a quick trip to Paris on a May day. I've never smelled a city that wonderful, bread baking and flowers blooming. Sitting in a sidewalk cafe watching people far more stylish pass by. Vin ordinaire (but not so ordinaire), pate and cornichons. Thanks for triggering the memory.
