Have been looking for a good baked bean recipe for a while ... and most will start with canned baked beans ... so kinda dull. Looking forward to testing this one out on the 4th at the lake house ... looking forward to not working too hard this year on this!
i'm a big Baked Bean guy... I've made your Baked 5 Beans side dish numerous times, and it certainly pleased my gathering of friends time and time again. I add a few variations like yourself, now and then. It's really a dependable crowd pleaser for sure... unless you don't like baked beans, then go for AZ's potato salad.... Made the test batch of the beans today ... there are only two of us, so we'll be eating them all week ... but definitely a keeper and will be making on the 4th! Don't have a baked bean crock, so I used my Staub ... came out perfect, and exactly what I was looking for: baked beans that didn't start with a can of baked beans. Thanks for this!!!
Oh, and I guess that it was AZ day today in our house ... first two episodes of Iron Chef while I chopped onion and cleaned the kitchen and did all those things that my ADD brain has to do while the tv is on. Thanks for that too!

OMG the succotash salad and Jamaican punch look awesome....well...everything does.
