A confirmation to your point about MSG is found within chapter 9 titled: "MSG: AN APOLOGY" in journalist's Michael Booth's book "SUPER SUSHI RAMEN EXPRESS ONE FAMILY'S JOURNEY THROUGH THE BELLY OF JAPAN". He devotes a whole chapter to this hoax. He tells how he was duped by the MSG hoax until he went to the source of its main manufacturing company Ajinomotoin in Japan. He includes an official transcript within that chapter of his interview with this company's leaders.

This book is a gold mine of Japanese cuisine, and it was purchased at the Dollar Tree Store.

What is the meal that haunts you, if there is such a thing?

A Japanese confection made from sweet sticky rice (not mochi) wrapped in pickled cherry blossom leaves ..Sakura Mochi). It was the purest umami I have experienced.

VERY interesting on the butter, sugar, fish sauce. And yes, I did see the episode where she backed away from you like you had Covid when you tried to hug her.

Q: I would be really interested to know what conversation you had with your wife before taking her to that circumcision where the grandfather had to eat the flesh of the penis.

Say what you want about MSG. Even if I don't know it's in a dish or product...my sinuses fill, my face feels tight and I get rashes on my limbs... naturally occurring glutamate does not create that reaction.

Andrew, I know answering this question is going to be hard, but I'd love to hear what you have to say. I wrote you earlier about this one sandwich because I'm still obsessed with it. On one of your earlier Bizarre Foods shows, you did Trinidad and Tobago. On the beach there, they were cooking fresh shark sandwiches in a tent of some kind. The way it was prepared made me want one terribly, and after you had tried it, you called it the best sandwich of any kind you had ever eaten. I know that was several years ago, but I would like to know what you still think about that sandwich. So, my hard to answer question is in 2 parts. What is the best sandwich you have ever eaten, and what is the best burger you have ever eaten.? Inquiring minds want to know.

Love the perk up your food answer. Can you provide a link to the fruit vinegars you mentioned? Or the name?

Thanks - As they are sold in France only and their US distributors do not sell direct, I went on a hunt. Ordered the Huilerie Beaujolaise Honey Vinegar, Huilerie Beaujolaise Raspberry Vinegar and Huilerie Beaujolaise Calamansi Vinegar (which from reading looks like a Philippine Lime of some sort - a mild citrus). Can't wait to get them and try them out. Your perk up food question was the perfect AMA ever! I will use these tips every day.

BTW - for other Spilled Milk substackers - Amazon had the WORST prices by at least double and found some other retailers. I ordered from www.177MilkStreet.com where I have had good experiences.

You are very open about your past and your addiction, how do you handle food cooked with alcohol? I think I have seen you eat food cooked with wine etc., how do you reconcile that with your sobriety?
