What is your ideal vacation? Chit-Chat #37
Here's the truth: I haven't had a real vacation in years.
What is your ideal vacation in one sentence?
I haven’t been on a real vacation for years. It’s a long story. And I don’t feel bad for myself because I get to do some really fun traveling all the time. But this last week has KICKED MY ASS. Some weeks have too much real life in them, you know what I mean? There are bad weeks at work, bad weeks with family, bad weeks with kids, bad weeks personally and when they overlap all I think of is “SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE!?!?!?”
So I started wondering, what’s my ideal vacation?
I need a very remote beach on a very remote island far away, with a killer tree line, an even better surf break, a stack of great books and crossword puzzles, a village I can walk to from my beach shack that serves hyper local food only in small eateries and homes, the kind of place where fruit ripens on trees in the jungle and you can pull fish out of the water.
That’s my answer… places like Samoa, the Solomon Islands, French Polynesia, the Mamanuca Islands, some smaller Indonesian and Philippine islands, the Cook Islands …those kind of places.
Tell me… if money were no object, if you had all the time in the world, if you could do whatever you wanted, what would it be?
I am the luckiest woman in the world. I live my ideal vacation every day by eating all my meals in restaurants, having takeout, or delivered meals. I feel super because eating only restaurant meals helps keep the restaurant industry flourishing and makes it possible for lower income workers to remain employed and off welfare. I have not cooked a meal in 11 years, have lost 125 pounds on restaurant meals, and have gone from a size 24w to a size 8. See ElaineAbramson.com.
Since life is short and the world is large, I make it a point to see something new at least once a year. This is the main reason why unlike many of my Michigan friends I do not want to own a cottage or vacation home. I do not want to be obligated to go to the same place all the time. This year I'm going to Australia and Bologna Italy. I prefer culturally oriented trips to warm destinations like Florida.
