Welcome to a paywall-free version of Ask Me Anything. One HUGE perk of a paid subscription to Spilled Milk is—in addition to posts, travel guides and exclusive recipes — you can ask me for travel guides. Click here to upgrade your subscription now. I’ve been almost everywhere and know the best places to eat no matter where you’re headed for vacation or business.
This week’s travel guide is for great places to eat in Lisbon. We’re also going to get controversial — I’ll answer questions about food delivery apps, Momofuku’s chile crunch trademark, Boeing planes and why Food Network has so many competition shows these days. Buckle up!
As you’ll see in this week’s video, I take questions about anything each week. In recent editions I’ve talked about how I choose salmon, why it’s often OK to eat pink chicken and where to eat in Madrid and Barcelona.
✈️ LET’S TAKE THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME TOGETHER!
Have you ever wanted to travel with me — I mean, really travel with me? How does spending nine days and eight nights with me in one of my favorite places on earth sound? This October, you can join me on a trip to Sicily thanks to my friends at Modern Adventure. We’ll explore markets, dine at some amazing restaurants and cook together. Hit this link, and I’ll see you in Sicily!
This week I’m coming to you from the National STEM Festival in Washington, D.C., where we flew in 140 STEM student champions from all 50 states for a weekend of learning and fun. (Some photos on my IG here.)
Let’s get to your questions.

This week’s questions
Chad:
John Oliver’s story about food delivery apps made me wonder how I can be a better delivery customer. I tip well!
Vicky:
Do you put noodles to your matzo ball soup? And do you put rice to Kebbeh?
Angie:
Do you ever worry about flying on Boeing planes? I’m starting to get worried.
Robin:
What do you think of Momofuku acquiring the trademark on the term “chile crunch” and seeking the trademark for the term “chili crunch”?
Pico:
Any tips for a long haul flight?
Sean:
OK to wash cast iron?
Bert:
What did you think about Valerie Bertinelli’s comments about the Food Network?
I agree with what Valerie Bertinelli said about the Food Network; it’s not about cooking and learning anymore. It’s all stupid competitions, which I have no interest in and rarely watch. That’s just me I guess.
I stopped watching the Food Network a long time ago when they started featuring their absurd competitions. Even the ones featuring renowned chefs denigrate the art of cooking by putting the emphasis on winning. Some competitions even feature trash talking chefs mimicking sports. If you don’t win, you’re a loser. PBS gets cooking shows right.
