Sostanza is a long time favourite of mine, ever since moving to Florence in 2005. Now more than ever. It is a special unchanging place in a Florence that is changing rapidly. Like you said, the same waiters, the same room -- even the same menu that never changes! There is so much comfort in that. One little correction, the crostini di fegatini are made with chicken liver. They are still wonderful. I don't know if you had heard but the owner died in a tragic motorcycle accident in 2016 and even then, they have managed to keep Sostanza's character alive and well.

My dad wasn’t a traveler. I got him on his first plane ride when he was in his 50’s. And years later on a trip to LA, took him & my mom on a day trip to drive the coast of the Pacific. I have a brilliant pic of my dad, standing in the sand trying to take a pic of the ocean on his flip phone. 🧡 His first time standing by the sea.

Our trips…having 4 brothers & a dad who fished…meant piling into the station wagon & heading to Wisc or Minn for a week of lake life. Amazing memories….and we learned young…bait your own hook, get your own hook out of the fish, and you cleaned & gutted what you caught. (Years later my dad would ask me over & over to share my story of fishing in an ocean, something he never got to do)

Loved listening to you speak about traveling with your dad…brought me right back to time with my own. TY!

I had an uncle, who sadly we lost last year. He was the traveler & storyteller in our family. Raised his kids in San Salvador, traveled everywhere! I could listen to him for hours!!! As an adult I loved to have him over, feed him well, and just listen. You remind me of him in your love of travel & experiencing the people of those places. Of course he is probably 35 years older than you. But today you made me remember him. 🧡🧡

Italy is on the agenda, as the next trip. I’ve never been, but I know of at least 1 must stop now. Stay well.
